Chinese divers beat Australian duo twice at Zhuhai diving GP

    ZHUHAI, South China, Apr. 2 (Xinhuanet) -- Chinese divers gave thehome spectators a sweet Friday afternoon when they retained two men's synchronized events in both the platform and the springboardat the FINA Diving Grand Prix here.

    Olympic winners Tian Liang and his new partner Yang Jinghui beat archrivals and defending champions Mathew Helm and Robert Newbery of Australia to triumph in the platform while Peng Bo and Wang Kenan once again overcame the Australian opponents in the springboard event afterwards.

    Tian and Yang dived to gold on 362.76 points. The Australian duo had to settle for the second place on 342.42 and Briton Peter Waterfield and Leon Taylor took bronze in 329.79.

    "Yang and I need to compete more together to get better synchronization," said Tian, The pair made their first appearance in the Daegu World University Games last year before they bagged home a gold medal from the 14th Diving World Cup in Athens in February.

    "We have flaws here and there in our moves, which we will try to improve on," added Sydney Olympic platform champion Tian, 24. "But in general, we have been doing better each day since we becamepartner."

    Peng and Wang continued Chinese domination of the afternoon as they won in 357.87, outclassing Australian Steven Barnett and Newbery by a big margin of 47.76 points. Waterfield and Mark Shipman added a second bronze medal to Britain's tally.
