LIMA, April 1 (Xinhuanet) -- Peruvian President Alejandro Toledo reiterated
on Thursday the existence of the maritime border dispute with Chile, saying the
controversy must be settled in accordance with the international law.
"We have multilateral and bilateral instruments that establish practical
accords for fishing but there are no treaties defining the borders in accordance
with the international law," Toledo toldreporters.
However, the Chilean government ruled out a border controversy with Peru
and indicated the border was established in an accord signed by both countries
in 1954.
Toledo said the bilateral ties and friendship could be boosted if Chile
recognized the controversy and adopted the most appropriate means to solve the
dispute. Enditem |
