UNITED NATIONS, March 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Lakhdar Brahimi, UN Secretary-General's special advisor who will lead an advance team back to Iraq, said here Friday that there is no credibility problem for the world body to help rebuilding the country.
"I think the Iraqis in the Governing Council and out of the Governing Council are overwhelmingly demanding that the UN plays arole," he told reporters at the entrance of the UN headquarters in New York.
The Iraqi Governing Council has sent a letter of invitation welcoming the world body to play a role in the process of the country's postwar reconstruction. But reports said the Iraq's ruling council was pressed by the occupier to do so. Enditem
