COLOMBO, March 19 (Xinhuanet) -- The Sri Lankan government on Friday reiterated its commitment to the one-China policy, urging the Taiwan authorities to refrain from any action that would aggravate tensions in the region.

Sri Lanka welcomes China's efforts toward a cross-Straits dialogue and the peaceful resolution of the Taiwan issue, Sri Lanka's Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

"The government of Sri Lanka is firmly committed to its 'One China' policy in respect of Taiwan," the statement said.

"Sri Lanka hopes that the authorities in Taiwan would not resort to any action that would exacerbate tensions in the region," it said. Enditem
