HONG KONG, March 15 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong media reshipped Monday Chinese Premier Wen Jiabao's remarks at a Sunday press conference, highly appraising the Central Government's stance on the country's development and Hong Kong affairs.

In a commentary, Wen Wei Po said Premier Wen's government work report and his words at the press conference "have both dispelled worries that the Central Government might shift basic policy on Hong Kong and conveyed Beijing's determination to safeguard Hong Kong's development and prosperity."

Ta Kun Pao said it should be noticed that Premier Wen's remarks the very "big gift" to Hong Kong was neither CEPA nor mainlanders' individual tour to Hong Kong, but Central Government's unwavering maintenance on "one country, two systems", "Hong Kong people governing Hong Kong", "high degree of autonomy", as well as the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region Basic Law. The daily said "the gift is conducive to resolving the dispute on Hong Kong's political development."

In an article, Ming Pao noted that a series of measures to revitalize Hong Kong's economy benefit both mainland and Hong Kong's long-term development. Hong Kong people should reply on the bases of taking the interests of the whole into account and having the cardinal principles in mind.

China Daily HK Edition's commentary said the just concluded sessions of the National People's Congress (NPC) and the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference (CPPCC) showed that "the new leadership's working styleis winning wider public approval and acceptance within the country's top legislative and political advisory bodies."

From the work report Premier Wen delivered on behalf of his cabinet, relatively shorter but tailored well to society's current concerns, many have observed a brand-new political culture in the making, it said. Enditem
