SEOUL, March 10 (Xinhuanet) -- South Korea and Sweden
expressed support Wednesday for a peaceful resolution of the nuclear issue on
the Korean Peninsula.
In a joint statement issued at the end of a meeting between South Korean President Roh Moo-hyun and Swedish Prime
Minister Goran Persson, the two sides shared the view that "a peaceful
resolution of the nuclear issue through dialogue is essential for the
maintenance of peace and stability not only in Northeast Asia but globally,"
reported South Korean national Yonhap News Agency.
In the joint statement, the Swedish premier also
supported South Korea's "peace and prosperity" policy, which includes the
denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula.
Roh and Persson also pledged to deepen bilateral
cooperative ties in trade and investment through the Invest in Sweden Agency and
Invest Korea, state-run agencies of the two nations charged with attracting
foreign investment.
The two sides also concurred on enhancing cooperation
in information technology, biotechnology, environment, traffic safety,social
changes and challenges for the welfare society.
Persson, who flew to Seoul Tuesday, will make
speeches at Dankook University and Ewha Womans University and receive an
honorary doctorate from Dankook before leaving Seoul Thursday. Enditem
