Urgent: New Democracy set to win Greek elections: preliminary result

    ATHENS, Mar. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The main opposition New Democracy (ND)party was by all accounts the winner of general elections in Greece on Sunday, according to initial exit polls.

    According to the predictions based on exit polls conducted on behalf of state-run NET television channel and announced at 8 p.m.,one hour after the closing of the polling stations, ruling Panhellenic Socialist Movement (PASOK) garners 41.5 percent, New Democracy (ND)45.3 percent, Communist Party of Greece (KKE) 5.5 percent, while the other three small parties only 7 percent altogether.
