PNA condemns deadly Israeli raid in central Gaza

GAZA, March 7 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) strongly condemned the killing of at least 14 Palestinians bythe Israeli army in a military raid in central Gaza early on Sunday.

"We strongly condemn the serious Israeli crime which proves that Israel talks about a pullout from the Gaza Strip in English but gives orders to destroy the strip in Hebrew," Palestinian chief negotiator Saeb Erekat told reporters.

Erekat accused Israel of committing war crimes in the Gaza Strip, saying that the PNA could not tolerate such Israeli acts, and the international quartet should play a key role in restoring security and peace in the region through the implementation of the roadmap peace plan.

Israel is carrying out massacres in the Palestinian territories in order to foil any peace effort, Erekat said.

The Israeli army forces backed by attack helicopters, tanks and armored vehicles stormed the refugee camps of Nuseirat and al-Bureij before dawn and clashed with Palestinian gunmen, killing at least 14 Palestinians and injuring 60 others.

No injuries were reported among the Israeli soldiers.

PNA Health Minister Jawad Al-Tibi told reporters that the Israeli army had banned Palestinian paramedics and ambulances access to the refugee camps, so many of the injured were left bleeding to death.

Al-Tibi added that the Israeli army had indiscriminately opened fire against residents in the camps, causing large casualties. Enditem
