Chinese never allow Taiwan separation: FM
www.chinaview.cn 2004-03-06 17:38:24

BEIJING, March 6 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese government and people will never allow anybody to separate Taiwan from China by any means, while striving for peaceful reunification with the utmost sincerity and greatest efforts, Foreign Minister Li Zhaoxing said Saturday.

Li reiterated at a press conference during the national legislature's annual session that there is only one China in the world and Taiwan is part of China.

The fact can be found in some international documents, including the 1943 Cairo Declaration and 1973 Resolution 2758 of the United Nations Assembly, and the joint communiques more than 160 countries in the world signed with China on the establishment of diplomatic relations, Li said.

The minister stressed the Taiwan issue is China's internal affairs and should be resolved by Chinese people on their own.

He called on all the countries in the world to abide by international laws and the basic norms pertaining to international relations, and not to do anything which meddles in China's internal affairs and leads to strained relations across the Taiwan Straits.

The Chinese people love peace, and will never allow any external force to interfere with the process of China's peaceful reunification, he said. Enditem
