GENEVA, March 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The World Health Organization (WHO)said Thursday that four confirmed cases and another 29 suspected cases have been found in Liberia's five counties, among which wereeight deaths.
Of the four confirmed cases, two are from Bong county and two are from Nimba county, the Geneva-based agency said.
The first emergency mass immunization campaign started on Feb. 26 in Bong county, targeting camps for Internally Displaced People.As of Monday, 42 percent of the target population have been immunized.
Additional emergency mass immunization campaigns are planned tostart in the next few weeks in Nimba county, the agency said.
The WHO, the United Nations Children's Fund and several medicalnon-governmental organizations are supporting the Liberian government in the implementation of the campaigns.
Yellow Fever is an extremely deadly disease transmitted by mosquitoes, with mortality rate reaching 50 percent even among hospitalized patients.
At least six outbreaks of the disease have been reported in Liberia between 1995 and 2002. Enditem
