GENEVA, March 4 (Xinhuanet) -- The what is claimed to be the world's first car to drive, swim and even fly has attracted great attention at the 74th edition of Geneva Motor Show that opened to the public Thursday.

The producer, electric Swiss engineering firm Rinspeed said its compact rear-wheel-drive two-seat sports car achieve a maximum of 31 mph on water and 50 mph in mid-hover, thanks to a hydraulically controlled foldable wing system that allows the vehicle to actually achieve lift over open water.

A larger number of such futuristic concept cars and new models will be arrayed at Geneva Motor Show underway until March 14.

Of the 500 plus cars exhibited at the show, around 100 are either entirely new models or markedly different from the standardmodel, said Georges Kindhauser, the show's marketing director.

Among them are several big stars, like the Peugeot 407 saloon and estate, the new Audi A6, the gleaming Ferrari 612 Scaglietti, the latest generation Corvette coupe and convertible, the new Mitsubishi Colt, and -- for the wind-blown effect -- the BMW 6-Series convertible, the Renault Wind, the Chrysler PT Cruiser Cabrio and the Mini Cabriolet, he said.

All together 56 concept cars and 17 prototypes have been placedon stage at the Geneva car show, which is the only one that takes place annually among the five most famous automobile exhibitions in the world. The other four are held in Detroit, Frankfort, Tokyoand Paris. Enditem
