RABAT, March 3 (Xinhuanet) -- A total of 628 people were ultimately killed and 926 others injured in last week's earthquake in northern Morocco, according to a rescue committee report released Wednesday night.
According to the report, 101 of the 926 injured are still in hospital, and 2,539 houses were destroyed, with 152,300 people being homeless.
The Moroccan government has provided the victims with 18,760 tents, 168,870 blankets, 1,561 tons of food, 106 tons of medicinesand 48 tons of clothes in addition to power generators and farm equipment.
Since the earthquake, more than 20 countries including China have offered humanitarian aid to victims. Moroccans in other partsof the country have also donated food, clothes and medicines to the tremor-hit area, said the committee.
The quake, estimated at 6.1 on the Richter scale, struck al Hoceima, Morocco on Feb. 24. Enditem |
