SHANGHAI, Feb. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- The imminent Chinese Premier League (CPL) will be just a change of name of the old first division league and will not be a revolution like the English Premier League breaking away from the English Football League in 1992.
Yan Shiduo, vice president of the Chinese Football Association (CFA), said that the CPL will be under total control of the CFA instead of the newly-established CPL Committee.
"The CPL Committee is not an independent organization, it's just a department of the CFA," Yan said. "All the important issues about the CPL can only be decided by the CFA."
Yan said that all the clubs have no rights to talk about CPL sponsors, television rights and products. These rights are all owned by the CFA.
He said that the establishment of the CPL is to bring the Chinese national football to a new level.
"The aim of the Chinese football at present time is to do a good job in the 2004 Olympic Games in Athens and make good show in the 2008 Beijing Games," Yan said.
The CPL Committee, which was founded here on Thursday, consists of five club presidents and two CFA officials.
Eighteen clubs broke away from the English Football League in 1992 and created the English Premier League and successfully revived the English football.
The English Premier League is also an independent organization and owns all the commercial rights including TV and radio broadcasting and relative products.
The inaugural Chinese Premier League, which features 12 teams, will kick off on May 16. Enditem |
