Macedonian president dies in plane crash

    BELGRADE, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski and several other staff members were killed when their plane crashed in the mountainous terrain in the south of Bosnia and Herzegovina on Thursday, according to official sources.

    The wreckage of the plane has been found in southern Bosnia, near a village about 80 kilometers south of Sarajevo, and there were no survivors, Bosnian radio quoted a senior official as saying..

    Trajkovski heading a delegation is scheduled to arrive Mostar at 8:30 a.m. (0730 GMT) for an international aid meeting for Bosnia and Herzegovina, said the Beta news agency.

    At about 9 a.m. (0800 GMT), the radar lost control of the aircraft.

    Because of heavy fog and rain, the plane crashed into mountains near the Stolac area, about 50 kilometers from the city of Mostar.

    Bosnian police and rescue team were sent to the crash site.

    Trajkovski, 47, was elected president in November 1999. Before that, he served as a deputy foreign minister in the government of former Prime Minister Ljubco Georgievski.

    According to Savo Cetic, Bosnia's ambassador to Macedonia, Trajkovski's advisors, Dinka Ivkova-Boskovich, Risto Blazevski andAnita Krisma-Luzanska, and security officials Boris Verionov, Aco Bozinovski and Mile Kitevski were on board.

    BELGRADE, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- Macedonian President Boris Trajkovski and another eight people were killed Thursday morning when their plane crashed near Stolac in southwest Bosnia and Herzegovnia.

    "At 8:15 a.m.(0715 GMT) air-control organ of the NATO-led Multinational Stabilization Force in Bosnia and Hezegovina informed Bosnian local air-control organ that they have lose radarcontact with Macedonian President's plane." The Tanjug news agencyciting Dragan Covic, the current President of the Bosnia's tripartite presidency as reporting.

    Covic said that according to unconfirmed information obtained so far, a total of nine people on board.

    Meanwhile, the Beta news agency citing local sources reported that the wreckage of the plane was found later in the day and no survivors were found, in addition to Trajkovski, six Macedonian officials and two crew numbers were also killed in the tragedy.

    Trajkovski heading a delegation is scheduled to arrive Mostar at 8:30 a.m. local time for an international aid meeting for Bosnia and Herzegovina.

    Local police said that heavy rain and fog in the area at that time might have contributed to the crash. Enditem
