SHENYANG, Feb. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- A health center has been established in
Anshan City of northeast China's Liaoning Province to provide youngsters with
sex-related consultation, education and medical services on a 24-hour basis.
Yang Ping, director of the Anshan Family Planning Commission, said
that the center extends free services to teenagers from needy families.
Youngsters aged from 10 to 24 years account for 22.14 percent of Anshan's
population of 3.58 million. Lacking sex-related knowledge, they might fall prey
to AIDS and sexually-transmitted diseases.
The center offers accurate and wholesome sex education to Anshan's
teenagers, helping them overcome anxiety arising from physiological changes,
Yang said.
The center also provides free prophylactics to teenagers, and medical
services to girls who become accidentally pregnant.
Teenagers may seek consultation concerning sex at the health center, and it
provides legal aid in cases of rape or seduction, he said.
