China takes first World Cup diving gold

BEIJING, Feb. 20, (Xinhuanet) -- China has claimed the first gold medal at the 14th Diving World Cup in Athens. Peng Bo and Wang Kenan took first place in the men's 3 metre springboard synchro final.

Meanwhile, in the women's 10 metre platform finals, top Chinese divers Lao Lishi and Xu Mian suffered major setbacks and failed to make it onto the podium.

Olympic champion Laura Wilkinson of the United States won the gold medal.

The diving World Cup, which opens in this year's Olympic venue, is the sport's test event for the Summer Games. Enditem
