XIAMEN, Feb. 13 (Xinhuanet) -- Police in the city of Xiamen in eastern Fujian province has demolished a large "ice", or crystal methamphetamine, workshop recently, capturing four suspects and a batch of raw materials, vehicles and arms, according to the municipal public security department.
Police have detained the four suspects, Su Ching-sung, Hsu Chuan-hsin, Hsiao Shih-hsiung and Chang Chia-cheng, who are all from Taiwan, said Lu Wenhui, director in charge of anti-drug detachment of the local public security department.
Late last month, suspicious activity in a workshop in Huli district of the city had drawn the attention of local police. The gate of the workshop was always closed in daytime but vehicles came in and out at night. A chemical odor also always spread outside the workshop.
Local police raided the venue, capturing the equipment for making ice as well as 69.42 kilograms of raw material. Later, police seized one military-use rifle, two pistols and more than 400 rounds of bullets, in the residence of the suspects.
Investigation shows that the four people rented the 500-square-meter workshop in August 2003 and began to produce crystal methamphetamine in November. They produced and sold 50 kilograms of finished and semi-finished drugs.
Further investigation is under way. Enditem |
