www.chinaview.cn 2004-02-12 10:45:00

BUCHAREST, Feb. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- The United States will extend financial support to upgrade the Triga research reactor, based in Pitesti in southern Romania, from enriched uranium fuel into depleted uranium fuel, Lucian Biro, president of the National Commission on Nuclear Activities Control (NCNAC) said on Wednesday.

According to the announcement from NCNAC, Romania had signed contracts of technical and financial cooperation with the US in order to implement a physical protection system at several nuclear research institutes.

The nuclear cooperation between Romania and the US for peaceful use of nuclear energy is based on agreements signed in 1973. Enditem
