WASHINGTON, Feb. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- US Democratic presidential front-runner John Kerry was projected to be the winner in the primary in Tennessee, the second southern state he won Tuesday.
Kerry scored an easy win earlier in the Virginia primary, scoring more than half of the votes, with John Edwards of North Carolina a distant second and retired general Wesley Clark of Arkansas a third.
The two victories were Kerry's first wins in the South, a region that traditionally votes for Republicans in general elections. The results cast doubt on arguments by Edwards and Clark, both from the South, that they have more appeal in the South than the Massachusetts senator.
Including the two wins Tuesday, Kerry has won 12 of 14 primaries or caucuses since late January, consolidating his commanding lead in the field for Democratic presidential nomination. Enditem
