BEIJING, Feb. 5 (Xinhuanet) -- The Chinese capital Thursday suspended bird trading, and closed all bird markets as a measure to combat the deadly bird flu that is spreading in the country.
On the same day, the Beijing Municipal Forestry Bureau suspended the transportation and imports and exports of wild birds and related products.
To restrict possible channels of infection, the related departments have strengthened measures to crack down on illegal fowl trading activities, and sent inspection teams to the markets in Fengtai, Xuanwu, Shijingshan, Xicheng and Chaoyang districts.
The bureau and the industrial and commercial departments will examine the implementation of the vaccination and disinfection of birds in zoos and breeding areas, and keep a close eye on underground trading and hunting activities, said bureau sources. Enditem |
