ROME, Feb. 3 (Xinhuanet) -- Italian Police arrested Tuesday a Sardinian young man suspected of having mailed an envelope containing used gun cartridges to European Commission President Romano Prodi on January 12, the lo
cal media
reported.
The report said the man was identified as Luca Farris, 25 yearsold, and is
allegedly a leading member of a Sardinia-based anarchist group calling itself
Anonima Sarda Anarchisti Insurrezionalisti (ASAI).
Investigators believe he has been involved in a number of letter bombs and other
attacks which were attributed to an archist organizations in recent months.
Police, who had been tailing him for days, arrested Farris early Tuesday
morning at his parents' house in Assemini, outside the capital of Sardinia
Cagliari.
Searches of a number of homes were under way in the area as investigators
looked for explosives, arms and ideological documents connected to Farris's
