Tests confirm bird flu outbreak in Laos

    BANGKOK, Jan. 27 (Xinhua) -- Tests have confirmed an outbreak of bird flu among chickens in Vientiane, capital of Laos, a senior official of the Lao Agriculture Ministry said on Tuesday.

    The official said, About 3,500 chickens had died in three chicken farms in Vientiane. But no report about bird-flu from other provinces, the official said.

    The official said samples tested in Hanoi confirmed that it was H5N1 virus.

    The official also said there was no evidence that bird flu had jumped to humans in Laos. Enditem
