Second patient infected with bird flu dies in Thailand

    BANGKOK, Jan. 27 (Xinhuanet) -- A second patient infected with bird flu died Tuesday morning in a hospital of Phitsanulok province, 500 kilometers north of Bangkok.

    The patient, Kanchai Nisachan, a 6-year-old boy, died about 10:00 a.m. Tuesday. He was sent to hospital 10 days ago and was treated in the intensive care unit.

    The boy's mother, Kanchana, 33-year-old, has died on Jan. 12 inSukhothai province. She was initially diagnosed as lung failure.

    The boy and his mother were listed by the Thai Health Ministry as suspected cases before the boy's pathogeny was confirmed as bird flu this Monday.

    According to the local press, Kanchana and her son ate some dead chickens in their village before they fell ill.

    Thailand has found three confirmed bird flu infected patients and 10 suspected cases so far, and two confirmed and five suspected patients have died. Enditem
