BAGHDAD, Jan. 25 (Xinhuanet) -- A US soldier has
died of wounds after a rocket-propelled grenade attack on his vehicle in the town
of Beiji, the US military said Sunday.
Insurgents fired the grenade at his Bradley vehicle when he was patrolling the central Iraqi town, about 200 km north of Baghdad, on Saturday night, said Maj. Josslyn Aberle, a spokeswoman for the 4th Infantry Division.
She said the soldier was evacuated to a combat support hospital where he died Sunday.
The volatile city, 30 km north of former Iraqi leader Saddam Hussein's hometown of Tikrit, stands in the middle of the so-called Sunni Triangle where anti-US attacks were the most frequent.
The latest death brought to 513 the number of US servicemen killed since the US-led coalition forces launched the Iraq war on Mar. 20 last year. Enditem |
