GENEVA, Jan. 9 (Xinhuanet) -- Swiss authorities announced Friday that they have arrested eight people in connection with last May's terrorist attacks on westerners in Saudi Arabia.

Those arrested, all foreign nationals, were being held on suspicion of providing logistic support to a criminal organization, the Federal Police Office said.

The arrests came during a coordinated nationwide operation on Thursday, which mobilized about 100 officers.

Police raided houses and questioned 20 suspects. They said theywere unable to give further details because inquiries were still continuing.

The string of bombings on Western residential compounds in the Saudi capital of Riyadh on May 12 has been linked to Osama bin Laden and the al Qaida terror network.

Twenty-six people, including one Swiss, and nine attackers werekilled in the bombings. Enditem
