Earthquake hits Taiwan

    HONG KONG, Jan. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake, measuring 5.9 on the Richter scale, hit Taiwan Thursday, but there was no immediate report of damage or casualties, according to reports reaching herefrom Taipei.

    The quake rocked at 11:15 a.m. local time with the epicenter in Taiwan's east coastal region of Hualien. Enditem
