BEIJING, Dec. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Hong Kong pop star Anita Mui has passed away after undergoing treatment for cancer of the womb.

    She was 40 years old.

A number of Mui's friends and singing stars went to the hospital before her death.

The showbiz veteran continued to work as normal and held a series of vocal concerts in November after she was diagnosed with cervical cancer in October.

Anita Mui launched her spectacular career when she was 18. The actress-singer shot to stardom in 1982 and has released more than 40 albums and starred in over 45 movies. She won Taiwan's Golden Horse Best Actress award in 1987 and is well known in Chinese communities around the world. Enditem (CRIENGLISH.com)
