WASHINGTON, Dec. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The WNBA will hold a dispersal draft on January 6 for the Cleveland Rockers' players after the league announced that the team was unable to find a new owner and had to be folded.
In mid-September, Cavaliers/Gund Arena Company president Len Komoroski and WNBA president Val Ackerman announced that the Cavaliers/Gund Arena Company would no longer operate the Rockers.
Cleveland posted a 17-17 mark this past season, good for a fourth-place finish in the Eastern Conference. The Rockers were eliminated in the opening round of the playoffs by the eventual champion Detroit Shock.
Cleveland did not return a profit in any of its seven seasons and it was one of eight WNBA charter teams in October 1996. Enditem |
