ATHENS, Dec. 22 (Xinhuanet) -- A new species of scorpion-like insect has been discovered in Greece, local media reported Monday.
The discovery was made by members of the "Pelinneo" Chios Studies Center during excavations in Sikia Cave at the village of Lithio in Chios, an island off northeastern Aegean.
Based on existing evidence, the insect can not be found anywhere else in the world, the center was quoted as saying.
The center's president, Yiannis Makridakis, told reporters that the insect had been photographed and sent to the Museum of NaturalHistory in Liverpool, Britain.
According to the museum's judgment, the unique scorpion-like insect belongs to the category of the arachnids.
The view was shared by Greek and foreign entomologists, including those at the Museum of Natural History in Sofia, Bulgaria. Enditem |
