quake hits southern California

  Los Angeles, Dec. 22 (Xinhua) -- An earthquake measuring 6.5struck southern California on Monday, CNN reported.          The quake was felt as a sustained but gentle rolling motionin downtown Los Angeles.

   The US Geological Survey gave it a preliminary magnitude of 6.5.
