UNITED NATIONS, Dec. 10 (Xinhuanet) -- UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan said Wednesday the world body's role on the political front of Iraqi reconstruction need to be further clarified.
"On the political front in the immediate to medium term, it hasyet to be established what role, if any, Iraqis and the Coalition Provisional Authority would like the United Nations to play in theformation of the transitional national assembly by 31 May 2004," Annan said in his latest report on Iraq to the Security Council.
The report, to be discussed by the council next Tuesday, briefly described UN activities and key developments in Iraq during the period of July 17, when his first report was issued, and Aug. 19, when the UN headquarters in Baghdad was bombed.
It also outlined a plan of action with regard to security, the deployment of the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq and the conduct of UN relief, recovery and reconstruction activities in Iraq. Enditem
