BEIJING, Dec. 7 (Xinhuanet) -- Li Jiajun anchored the Chinese foursome to the men's 5,000m relay gold medal, the country's second, at the fourth leg of World Cup short track speed skating here on Sunday.
The Chinese team, who had trailed the South Koreans from the start, took advantage of a fall by a South Korean skater with 18 laps to go, and then helf off a Canadian challenge at the finish.
Veteran Li Jiajun, skating the last two laps, came from behind at the final lap for a winning time of 6:53.517, leaving the Canadians having to accept the silver at 6:53.827. South Korea placed third after beating the U.S. team spearheaded by Apolo Anton Ohno.
"We were so anxious about winning at home that we made some mistakes during the previous races. However, in the men's relay, we showed our real strength," said Li.
"Li got a really good final lap and China deserves the win," said Canadian skater Jeff Scholten.
The victory was a great relief for the host as South Korea won the day's other five finals.
