Strong quake occurs off Russian peninsula

    BEIJING, Dec.6 (Xinhuanet) -- An earthquake measuring 7.1 on Richter scale jolted the sea area off the Commander Is. to the east of Russia's Kamchatskiy Peninsula early Saturday, say Chinese seismological stations.

    At 5:26 am (Beijing Time) on Saturday, the quake hit at 55.7 degrees north latitude and 165.4 degrees east longitude, according to an announcement from the State Seismological Bureau of China. Enditem
