TBILISI, Nov. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Georgian opposition leader MikhailSaakashvili said Sunday that President Eduard Shevardnadze has resigned.
Saakashvili left the venue where he, along with another opposition leader, was meeting with the embattled president on the settlement of the current political crisis and headed for the square in front of the parliament where his supporters are rallying.
Protesters at the square were told that President Shevardnadze had resigned. Nino Burjanadze, a major opposition leader who has clamed interim presidency, exclaimed "victory!"
The crowd at the square began to rejoice over the announcement,an Interfax correspondent reported. Enditem
