India test fires cruise missile

    NEW DELHI, Nov. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- India on Sunday successfully test-fired an anti-ship cruise missile with a target range of 290 km, Indian defense sources said.

    The supersonic anti-ship missile, Brahmos, was successfully test-fired from a war ship stationed in the Bay of Bengal off Orissa coast of India, the sources said.

    Sunday's flight test of Brahmos, which hit the target accurately, was the sixth in the series.

    Jointly developed by India and Russia, the cruise missile was fired from Indian navy's destroyer INS Rajput.

    Weighing about three tons, the missile is eight meters long andcarried a conventional war-head weighing about 200 kg. Enditem
