UK to fight against terrorism with Turkey: Straw
www.chinaview.cn 2003-11-21 17:16:12

ANKARA, Nov. 21 (Xinhuanet) -- Visiting British Foreign Secretary Jack Straw said Friday his country will continue to fight terrorism together with Turkey following Thursday's deadly blasts inIstanbul, killing at least 27 people and wounding over 450.

At a joint press conference held in Istanbul with Turkish Foreign Minister Abdullah Gul, Straw said Turkey has been chosen as a target by terrorists because of its democracy progress, stressing the civilized world is now facing global terror threat.

The British foreign secretary also said at the conference that his country is willing and determined to see Turkey to become a full member of the European Union as soon as possible.

Earlier, Straw said that devastating bombings in Istanbul would strengthen rather than harm Turkey's prospects of joining the European Union while touring sites of the Thursday's blasts with Gul.

"Far from this hurting Turkey's application to join the European Union, it will increase the determination of all of us to see Turkey a full member of the European Union." Enditem
