China crowns in 2003 women's v olleyball World Cup

    OSAKA, Japan, Nov. 15 (Xinhua) -- China beat their last rival hosts Japan to take the title of the 2003 women's volleyball WorldCup with a perfect record. 

    The Chinese team beat Japan 3-0 (25-18, 25-18, 25-13) to register their 11th victory in the 12-team, round robin tournamentwhich concluded here Saturday.

    It is the first major world title for the Chinese team since 1986 when they won the world champioship gold medal in Czechslovakia.

    Brazil took the silver medal with 10 wins against one loss, followed by the United States at 8-3. The top three teams all qualified for the 2004 Athens Olympic Games. Enditem
