MOSCOW, Nov. 12 (Xinhuanet) -- A Russian Mig-29 fighter jet crashed Wednesday in Armenia, a former Soviet republic in the North Caucasus, Russian air forces press reported, according to the Interfax news agency.
Russian air force spokesman Col. Alexander Drobyshevsky said that the incident occurred during a training flight near the Erebuni in Armenia.
"The airplane disappeared from radar at 12:53 p.m. Moscow time (0653 GMT). The fighter did not return to the airfield at the set time," he said.
A Mi-8 helicopter from the search and rescue service was sent on a search mission immediately after the incident. Drobyshevsky said.
