Saudi police detains suspects in Riyadh blast

RIYADH, Nov. 11 (Xinhuanet) -- Saudi security forces have detained a group of suspects related to a weekend suicide bombing in Riyadh, CNN reported on Tuesday.

The blast occurred in the al-Muhaya residential compound around midnight Saturday in the western part of Riyadh, killing at least 17 people and injuring 122 others.

The Saudi Interior Ministry termed the blast as a "terrorist bombing" and Saudi-born Osama bin Laden's al-Qaida network is suspected of masterminding the bomb attack.

The explosion came one day after the US diplomatic missions in the country were closed amid warns of possible terror attacks.

On Friday, sources from the US embassy in Riyadh said the US diplomatic missions would close on Saturday to assess security conditions as credible information showed that terrorists in Saudi Arabia planed to carry out attacks in the kingdom.

Saudi King Fahd Bin Abdel Aziz said Monday that his country would show an iron fist in the face of terrorists who were involved in the bombing. Enditem
