BEIJING, Nov. 14, (Xinhuanet) -- China has scored its tenth straight win at the Women's Volleyball World Cup in Japan by defeating world champions Italy in three straight sets, 26-24, 25-18 and 25-20.
But today's (Friday's) victory is not enough for China to claim its first world title in 17 years.
Earlier on Friday, Brazil defeated the United States in three sets and improved its record at the round-robin tournament to 9-1, which forced China to wait until the last match to turn its title quest into a reality.
China is to play against hosts Japan on Saturday and a win will guarantee the Chinese team a world title bid. Enditem
