BAGHDAD, Nov. 1 (Xinhuanet) -- US administrator in Iraq Paul Bremer said Saturday the US forces believes that Iraq's ousted leader is still alive and hiding in Iraq.

"We believe that Saddam is alive. We believe he is in Iraq, and his capture or his killing is one of our top priorities," Bremer said at a press conference.

Asked if Saddam was behind part of an intensified spate of strikes at US forces and their supporters, Bremer confessed, "We still have no clear indication that Saddam himself is behind these attacks."

But the administrator considered it important to capture or killthe former strongman to "draw down the curtain once and for all."

According to a report carried by the New York Times, certain information had indicated that Saddam is residing somewhere in northern Iraq and is inciting people to mount a number of anti-US attacks. Enditem
