WASHINGTON, Oct. 30 (Xinhuanet) -- The intruding incident at a US congressional office building on the Capitol Hill on Thursday was over, police said.

The incident at the Cannon Office Building, which sent the House of Representatives into a brief recess, "is over," US Capitol Police Chief Terry Gainer said.

The intruders were congressional aides with Halloween costume and toy gun. The incident resulted from "two staff members bringing in Halloween costumes," he said.

Gainer said the two staff aides were "very sorry this all happened," and the security personnel had performed "well within standards."

Soon after Gainer's announcement that the gun was a plastic gunand part of a costume, the lawmakers were called back into session.

Security officials at the entrance to the building noticed the image of a gun and triggered an alarm, after the two staff aides passed through the security station with a bag X-rayed and went into their building.

The incident caused a lockdown of the building, which houses the legislative offices for dozens of members of the House of Representatives. The building was evacuated and police searched the building room-by-room for the suspects.

In another development, the roads and a bus stop near the Pentagon were briefly closed Thursday while authorities were investigating a suspicious truck that parked nearby, a spokesman said. Enditem
