PNA condemns Israeli demolition of high-rises in Gaza

GAZA, Oct. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The Palestinian National Authority (PNA) on Sunday denounced as a "crime" the Israeli army's demolition of three high-rise buildings and a police post in the Gaza Strip.

"It is a crime that is part of a series of Israeli army provocative daily crimes, and we would not tolerate such provocations," Nabil Abu Rudeineh, a top aid of Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, told reporters in Ramallah.

"These acts would lead to dangerous consequences," Abu Rudeineh warned.

He urged Israeli officials to return to the negotiation table instead of escalating their military assaults "that will only lead to more escalation."

The Israeli army raided Al Zahra town late on Saturday with about 17 military tanks and armored vehicles and forced all the residents of three high-rise buildings to evacuate before dynamiting them.

The huge explosion, which rocked the Gaza Strip before dawn on Sunday, caused material damages to the nearby buildings and houses.

The Israeli troops also destroyed a police post earlier in the Azzahra neighborhood before they forced the police officers to surrender. Enditem
