Death toll rises to nine in twin earthquakes in NW China

  BEIJING, Oct. 26 (Xinhuanet) -- The death toll in the two strong tremors that hit northwest China less than ten minutes apart Saturday night rose to nine as of 3:30 p.m. Sunday afternoon, according to the State Seismological Bureau.

  latest updates show that another six were seriously wounded and 37 more suffered light injures, according to the bureau.

  The twin earthquakes, measuring 6.1 degrees and 5.8 degrees on the Richter scale, jolted areas between Minle and Shandan countiesof Zhangye City in Gansu at 20:41 and 20:48 Saturday.

  According to the Chinese seismological monitoring network, the epicenters of the quakes are located at 38.4 degrees north latitude, 101.2 degrees east longitude, and 38.4 degrees north latitude and 101.1 degrees east longitude.

  The epicenters are about 500 kilometers northwest to Lanzhou, capital of Gansu. Enditem
