BAGHDAD, Oct. 24 (Xinhuanet) -- A US soldier was killed in a fresh attack in northern Iraq on Friday, the US military reported.

The soldier from the 101st Airborne Division was attacked Friday by small arms in Mosul, 450 km north of Baghdad, the military said without giving further details.

The death brings to 106 the number of US soldiers killed by hostile fire in Iraq since US President George W. Bush declared the major combat over on May 1.

In another incident, a US military convoy was hit by a roadside bomb in Fallujah, a restive town 50 km west of Baghdad, early Friday. Witnesses said one of the vehicles was damaged and several soldiers were wounded.

The pair of attacks came as the potential donors gathered in Madrid, Spain, for a second day to make their first major investment commitments on the reconstruction of Iraq. Enditem
