MANILA, Oct. 23 (Xinhuanet) -- A grenade was discovered behind the Philippine
Bureau of Immigration headquarters here before dawn on Thursday, the Philippine
Daily Inquirer on-line news reported.
A street cleaner who was sweeping the sidewalk spotted the grenade, which
Manila police bomb experts identified as an MK2, the report said.
Police detonated the bomb, and are investigating the incident. The
discovery of the grenade came after explosives were found at adowntown station
of the Light Rail Transit in Manila on Wednesday night.
The authorities are closely monitoring suspected members of
theIndonesia-based Jemaah Islamiya militant group to ward off possible terror
attacks in the country. The group is a prime suspect for the Bali bombing attack
a year ago in Indonesia, whichclaimed over 200 lives.
The group is also linked to a series of blasts in December 2000in Manila,
where at least 22 were killed. Enditem
