Islamic Jihad leader survives Israeli air raid

  GAZA, Oct. 20 (Xinhuanet) -- Israeli warplanes Monday attacked a house in eastern Gaza City, which was said to belong to Abdullah Shami, a leader of the militant group of Islamic Jihad (Holy War). Shami reportedly survived the attack.

  Witnesses heard an explosion in the Shijaiyeh neighborhood and saw smoke rising into the air. Several people were injured in the attack.

  Israel has launched a spate of air raids against Palestinian militant leaders accused of being responsible for suicide bombing attacks against Israelis. Enditem
