NAIROBI, Oct. 19 (Xinhuanet) -- Three Somali delegates, among them a
member of parliament in the Somali Transitional National Government (TNG), were
found murdered early on Sunday, Kenyan police have confirmed.
The three, two of whose names have not been officially released by
the police, were found with bullet wounds in their heads in Ollolua forest near
Ngong Hill, about 20 kilometers from Nairobi.
A member of the Inter Governmental Authority on Development (IGAD)
which is steering the Somalia National Reconciliation Conference in
Nairobi said the body
of Ibrahim Abdille, a TNG member of parliament, and those of two Somalis living
in Kenya were
dumped in the forest.
Abdille was a delegate to the IGAD sponsored peace talks on
Somalia that
are currently going on in Kenya.
"We have only identified the TNG member but we are yet to establish
the names of the other two Kenyans of Somali origin," Mohammed Guled, an
official at the IGAD liaison office told Xinhua.
The area police boss James Omiya said the men were killed elsewhere
and the bodies dumped in the forest.
Police recovered IGAD identification cards in their pockets.
The delegates who were participating in the Somali peace talks have
been staying at Mbagathi in Nairobi where the
talks are being held.
Their bodies have been removed to the city mortuary.
More than 300 delegates representing the TNG, Somali armed factions
and political groups are attending what is known as the third phase of the
Somali peace talks.
The talks began last October when more than 20 faction leaders had
agreed a cease-fire accord, but were later bogged down by a number of disputes.
More than a dozen attempts to broker peace in
Somalia
since then have failed. Enditem |
