More foreign leaders, media salute China's manned space flight

  BEIJING, Oct. 17 (Xinhuanet) -- More foreign leaders and media have congratulated the Chinese government on the success of its first manned space flight.

  The Foreign Ministry of Cyprus said on Friday in a congratulatory message to the Chinese government that "this event manifests the significant technological progress of China and constitutes a significant achievement for the Chinese nation and a positive contribution to humankind."

  "Space exploration will definitely be enriched with the contribution of China, a nation with a distinguished history in research and science," said the message.

  Turkmenistan President Saparmurad Atayevich Niyazov on Thursday sent a congratulatory letter to his Chinese counterpart Hu Jintao, hailing China's successful manned space flight.

  Noting that the significant success shows to the world China's great potential in the field of science and technology, Niyazov wished China a bigger progress in the space industry and the Chinese people a happy and sound life.

  In a congratulatory telegram sent to Chinese President Hu Jintao on Thursday, Czech President Vaclav Klaus said the great achievement will put China in the ranks of countries with advanced technology and strengthen human beings' determination to have a peaceful exploration of outer space.

  Describing the historic flight as a contribution made by the Chinese people to human beings, Malian President Amadou Toumani Toure said in a congratulatory telegram to President Hu that the Malian people and himself are proud of China's successful manned space flight.

  Lebanese government officials and overseas Chinese in Lebanon and Cambodia also hailed China's success, while media in Cyprus, Turkmenistan, Lebanon, Romania, the Philippines and Chile have made extensive, detailed reports on the successful flight of China's manned Shenzhou-5 spaceship. Enditem
