¡¡¡¡BEIJING, Oct. 16 (Xinhuanet) -- Leading Chinese newspaper, the "People's Daily", is to run an editorial on Oct. 17, hailing the successful launch and safe return of the manned Shenzhou-5 spaceship.

¡¡¡¡Entitled "Glory of the Great Motherland", the editorial says that the success marks "a great historic step forward in scaling the height of science and technology, an extraordinary feat of the ceaseless efforts of the Chinese people in making the country strong and a glory of the great motherland."

¡¡¡¡The editorial describes the breakthroughs in space technology over the past 11 years as "something really great", adding that it testifies to the correctness of the major policy decision taken by the Party Central Committee and the superb capabilities of the industrious and intelligent Chinese people in innovation and self-reliance.

¡¡¡¡The achievements manifests the tremendous superiority of the socialist system that is able to amass all available resources to accomplish something big, the editorial says.

¡¡¡¡The editorial also attributes the achievements to the reform, opening up and modernization drive, which, it says, have provided a solid material foundation for the development of space science and other branches of science and technology.

¡¡¡¡Developing space technology, the editorial says, is a useful exploration into the resources in outer space and China should make its due contributions to the progress of science and technology of mankind and to the peaceful development of space.
